The bite is back with a vengeance while the supply of story lines has multiplied rather than calcified.

As with HBO's Game of Thrones, the best seems yet to come after rejuvenating seasons that will leave many a faithful fan stoked for more. Season Four of OITNB is a glorious return to form: a pitch-perfect mix of comedy and drama astonishing in just how real it all feels.

This intimacy gives OINTB the cushion to treat provocative issues-rape, racism, prison violence, excessive force-in ways that are not just nuanced for scripted television, but nuanced full stop.

Despite all this change -- including the fact that this kickoff episode featured no flashbacks -- the main appeal of the show seems to remain intact: the banter.

Despite some racial stereotyping, the sheer breadth of representation vaults the show to heavyweight status in the realm of inclusive media.

OITNB has reclaimed its place as one of the best dramas going around at the moment and if this standard maintains going forward then that's not changing anytime soon.

This season's narrative did nothing more than march in lockstep with the real-life stories of policemen who harmed the people they were tasked with protecting.

Fourth time around, Orange Is The New Black is back to its sparky, laugh-out-loud, emotionally-involving best. The main thing I appreciated about this particular season is how much they focused on humanizing every character, guard, prisoner, and whomever.

Season 4 begins right where the show left off: Litchfield has become privatized and the parent company calling the shots is looking to run a leaner operation, with inexperienced guards and more prisoners entering the prison.

Fans of the comedy-drama series will be happy to know Season 4 will not be the last, as the show has been renewed for three more seasons with Kohan on board.

Not quite a political term, but still plenty of time to do some interesting things. Thanks, Netflix! And kudos and gratitude to the stellar cast and crew and writers and producers and editors and musicians and mixers and shleppers … with whom I have the pride and honor of crafting this show.
