This is a pretty grisly horror film which makes it rather unique among musicals. Tim Burton has done a masterful job with this one.
DVD transfer is very good to excellent. Color Recommended for those 16 and above. Not for family viewing. What got me to check this film out was two things.
I'm not a fan of musicals however what I liked about this film was how well crafted and dark the story was. And last the acting was very well done I was really impress with Johnny Depp's role as Sweeney Todd a very dark character.
The gore snd disgust was over yve top. Worst 'musical' I've ever seen. The makeup had no sense or logic since they kept singing 'life is for ther living', yet they looked dead.
It is not gir children. There is one gory murder after another. This movie should of never been made.
If i could give zero stars I would. I don't know how this received so many 5 star reviews. I usually like musicals, but this was a bore I found myself fast forwarding through ALL the songs.
Waste of my time and my mind! I like Sweeney Todd. I like Tim Burton's work and all of the actors in the movie.
Unfortunately, as much as I love Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter don't expect much from their singing abilities and you won't be disappointed.
Both were either too timid or just couldn't figure out how to sing from the diaphragm. I loved it the first time I saw it many years ago, but more recently it was pretty mediocre.

I'd heard all the hype and was praying that it lived up to it - well, it did - for the most part anyway. You know when you see Tim Burton's name on the screen that you're not getting just any old film.
The atmosphere from the opening credits sets the scene perfectly for what you're about to experience over the next 2 hours.
I knew it was a musical, so no surprises there, but I did wonder how much music there would be, especially at the start as it seemed to be nothing but, however it was a very useful way of giving us the background to Barker's life, and why he is the way he is.
All the singers do a great job, but I can't help but think the film could have been just as good without the musical elements. My main gripe though is the ending - it all seemed to be too abrupt - as if there had been some serious editing at the last minute.
